PROPOSING A FACULTY-LED PROGRAM


Faculty-Led Study Abroad Support

Education Abroad supports FAU faculty, staff, adjuncts, and administrators in developing credit-bearing courses that include 1–8 weeks of international travel. We guide you through the full program development, approval process, and implementation.

In collaboration with the Center for Global Engagement, Academic Affairs, General Counsel, and Global Travel Safety and Security Subcommittee (GTSSS). We ensure your program is safe, well-structured, and aligned with university policies.

  • Marketing and student recruitment
  • Application and documentation management
  • Vendor selection and contract support

We’ll connect you with trusted international partners for housing, transportation, classroom space, excursions, and meals.

Note: All vendors must be approved by Education Abroad.


Before you start

You must meet with Education Abroad at least 3 weeks before your proposal deadline. This meeting covers program development, policies, timelines, and expectation.

Proposal Deadlines

Spring 2026 à£à£Ö±²¥Ðãs

  • Final Submission Deadline: Sunday, July 27, 2025

Summer 2026 à£à£Ö±²¥Ðãs

  • Priority Submission Deadline: Sunday, August 24, 2025
  • Final Submission Deadline: Sunday, September 21, 2025

Priority submission deadline is strongly recommended for:

  • New programs
  • à£à£Ö±²¥Ðãs with an early May start date
  • à£à£Ö±²¥Ðãs to destinations with a Level 3 or Level 4 U.S. Department of State Travel Advisory 

Late submissions may be considered on a case-by-case basis but may result in delays.

Step 2: Individual Leader Requirements

If your propogram is approved, each leader (faculty, co-leader, assistant, GA) must complete individual forms before the program is advertised. This is usually by Nov 1.

Proposal Review Process & Timeline

Review Process

Proposals are reviewed by Education Abroad, the Center for Global Engagement, and the Provost's Office. à£à£Ö±²¥Ðãs are evalauted for safety and security, feasibility of travel, academic merit and cost considerations.

Additional information or meetings may be requested. Submitting a proposal does not guarantee approval.

Risk Assessment

Proposals for destinations with Level 3 or 4 travel advisories undergo further review by GTSSS. Additional documentation or approvals may be required. 

If the proposed destination is listed as a Level 3 or Level 4 travel advisory by the U.S. Department of State, the proposal will undergo further review by FAU’s Global Travel Safety and Security Subcommittee (GTSSS).

Decision Timeline

Priority submissions: Decision by early October 2025

Final submissions: Decision by late October 2025

Marketing Timeline

Approved programs should be ready for marketing and student applications by November 1, 2025.

Student Application Deadline

Typical summer deadline: Early February 2026 (may vary based on program logistics)
